Little Birds Preschool is a Montessori-inspired play-based preschool, which supports social-emotional skills, speech and language development and early literacy skills.
We use a theme-based approach that balances child-directed learning with teacher-directed activities. We focus on the development of the whole child by offering a program that nurtures the child’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder, and allows for the unique learning style and development of each individual child. Daily activities are designed to promote development in all areas (communication, cognition, fine & gross motor, social-emotional and self-care) and foster independent learning. Our program provides an encouraging, supportive environment that builds the child’s confidence and forms the foundation for kindergarten readiness and a lifelong love of learning.
Daily activities include: learning centers for free play, dramatic play, sensory-based activities, art, music, math, science, outside play, snack time and circle time.
Programs: Little Birds offers a 3 or 4 day/week preschool program for children aged 33 months-4 years-old. This class has a max 10 children enrolled with 2 teachers. We offer a 2 day/week preschool program for children aged 22 months-3 years-old. This class has a max of 8 children enrolled with 2 teachers.
*Children do not need to be potty-trained to start preschool.
Calendar:The preschool program runs September 11, 2023-June 9, 2024 and follows the Seattle School District calendar for holidays and breaks.
Parent Comments:
“I feel so fortunate to have found Little Birds Learning for my son. Joah creates a nurturing, supportive environment for every child in her program. I have seen her handle conflict between kids with patience and grace and seen her and the other teachers engage kids with fun, educational tasks and also with hugs and snuggles and imaginative play—such a great mix for preschool. Weekly emails keep me apprised of what’s happening at school, which I really appreciate, especially since my son has a speech disorder, so I don’t always get lots of information from him! I always feel heard as I’ve inquired about how my son is doing and trust her insights as an educator, speech and language expert, and parent. Most importantly, Henry loves his friends and going to school! I’m so glad we found Little Birds for my son”. — Parent
“Just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate the loving environment you create for the children at Little Birds. The pre-school years are such a precious and important time for children to learn to be kind to each other and joyfully explore the world around them. Your thoughtful activities and encouragement foster this and help each child grow and blossom. Thank you for all you do.”– Grandparent
“Little Birds is an exceptional preschool and I’m so grateful that both of my children (ages 2 and 4) attended their program. My daughter attended the preschool program and my son attended the 2s program (a rare find in Seattle!). From the extremely low ratios, the quality teaching staff, competitive pricing, and the engaging curriculum, I would highly recommend this school!
The teachers are experienced, knowledgeable, invested, and they genuinely care about the wellbeing of the kids. Each and every day, my children were welcomed with smiles and hugs; and at the end of the day, the goodbyes were equally warm, caring, and never rushed. Further, the teachers were always open to communicate about the kids, gave me advice about how to handle behavior at home, and were always advocates about what is best for the children. I also loved how we received a weekly email at the beginning of the week, sharing what the theme and activities were going to be.
The classrooms and curriculum were simply magical. The rooms were always stocked with meaningful, creative activities, and the curriculum seamlessly wove academic readiness and social development into fun, open ended projects. I felt that my children were not only exploring and innovating during the day, but they were learning their letters, numbers, and how to treat others with respect. I loved how each day combined large and small group activities, open play, and individualized attention for each child.
Little Birds will always have a special place in our memories. The program and the teachers deposited so much goodness into my children’s hearts each and every day, and I have no doubt that the program has created a foundation for lifelong learning.”–Parent
